The Thomas Edison State University Foundation held its second annual Impact Awards, honoring individuals who exemplify the University’s mission of creating innovative and accessible pathways for students and communities. The event, hosted in Pruitt Hall on the Trenton campus, raised nearly $100,000 to support TESU’s programs and initiatives.

This year, the Spirit of Edison Distinguished Alumna Award was presented to Bonny Simi, a 2019 TESU graduate and President of Operations at Joby Aviation. Simi was recognized for her leadership in fostering opportunities for growth and development in the aviation industry by making higher education accessible through the JetBlue Scholars program, which she founded in 2016.

The Spirit of Edison Community Award went to Sean Murray, market president for Central/Northern New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley Region at Fulton Bank. Murray was honored for his meaningful work in strengthening local communities and his commitment to building partnerships that drive economic growth and sustainability.

TESU’s president, Dr. Merodie A. Hancock, addressed attendees, highlighting the significance of the evening and expressing gratitude for the ongoing support from the TESU community. “Thank you to everyone for sharing this special evening with us. Your continued support drives us to provide the most innovative, accessible and career-relevant programs possible to each and every one of our students,” she said.

The Impact Awards event, now an annual tradition, serves as a key moment to recognize the outstanding contributions of alumni and community members, as well as to garner vital resources for the University’s mission. This year’s successful fundraiser will help TESU continue to expand its innovative educational offerings and provide student support through scholarships, ensuring students have access to career-relevant programs that meet their unique needs.
