Whether you’re a bookworm or it’s been ages since you found yourself lost in the pages of a book, reading is something which benefits us all. From stimulating our minds and imaginations to helping us unwind after a long day, reading offers far more benefits than just a great story. Reading can also be an easy and convenient way to open our minds to new experiences, knowledge, and points of view. Both educational and enjoyable, there’s much to be loved about engaging in the literary world. And the only thing better than diving into a book solo? Reading alongside your community, of course! For those looking to embark on their next great book journey, the recently-announced Barracks Book Club is the perfect place to get started this summer.

The Old Barracks recently announced the launch of the Barracks Book Club, a fun and free way to expand your literary horizons. Each month, participants will have the opportunity to read, review, and recap selections which were hand-picked by The Old Barracks’ staff. As an added incentive to get started, all participating members will receive an exclusive Barracks Book Club bookmark to help you keep track of your progress in each exciting selection. This is a free resource to the community, so be sure to share this opportunity with family and friends.

For those interested in enrolling, you can get started by registering online, linked here: Register – Barracks Book Club. At the beginning of each month, Old Barracks staff will be in touch with the month’s recommendation. Later in the month, participants will receive a second email blast asking for your review of the book and/or a photo of you reading the featured book that will be included in an end of the month recap on social media. Participating in a book club is a wonderful way to connect with members of your community, keep yourself accountable in completing the month’s selection, and explore a whole host of different perspectives and interpretations regarding the books you’ve read together.

This program is offered by The Old Barracks, a treasure trove of historic discovery in the Capital City.
