On Saturday, July 6th, the New Jersey State Museum invites you to be a part of the 2024 Civil War Flag Unveiling. This beloved tradition offers viewers an intimate and educational viewing of five flags which will be added to the museum’s exhibition, The Civil War Flag Collection of New Jersey. The unveiling will take place at 10am at the New Jersey State Museum campus, located in Downtown Trenton at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. There is an abundance of free parking available to visitors, including the NJSM lot as well as street parking. The afternoon’s proceedings will be led by flag historian, Dr. David Martin of the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association and NJSM Curator of Cultural History, Nicholas Ciotola.
The day’s celebration will kick off with a walkthrough of The Civil War Flag Collection of New Jersey exhibit at the NJSM, as well as an overview of the five new flags being introduced to the collection. History buffs in the Garden State are in for a treat, as New Jersey is one of the only states in the nation whose Civil War flags are on display and on view to the public. Following the one hour tour, guests are invited to stick around for a festive reception. The afternoon’s reception, which is presented by Hunterdon 300th, will take place in the museum’s scenic Riverview Court. A delightful day of discovery for any history buff, guests are certain to be blown away by this one of a kind experience.
